Pavel ZEMAN

Prosecutor General, Prosecutor general’s office

Pavel Zeman studied law at the Law Faculty and political science at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. He started his professional career in 1998 as a legal trainee at the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pilsen-South. In 2001 he was appointed public prosecutor and assigned to the District Public Prosecution Office in Pilsen – City. He was then temporarily assigned to the Regional Public Prosecution Office in Pilsen and the Prosecutor General’s Office. In 2002 he worked as a public prosecutor at the International Affairs Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office in Brno, European Integration. From 2004 to 2011 he served as the national member of the Czech Republic for Eurojust – European unit for judicial cooperation – in The Hague. He presided over a team of the European Warrant; he was a member of the administrative and international team, a member of the security team, national correspondent for terrorism and head of the Eurojust section at the International Affairs Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office

In 2010 he was appointed the Prosecutor General by the government of the Czech Republic upon the proposal of the minister of justice, effective January 1, 2011.

He is fluent in English, German and French, and he also speaks Russian.
